Title: A Little More Light
Post by: cheetah on July 07, 2013, 12:55:16 PM
I bought this thinking they were true LED fog lights.  By looking at the price I should have known better.. :musicboohoo:

But after the install, I LOVE them.  The fit is perfect, they look great and thepower consumption is nothing; only 250mA per light.  I wired them into the parking light bulb above the headlight.  Since the power consumption is so low, I don't worry about leaving the parking lights on when I'm in Wal-Mart buying beer at night.

This is the item off of EBay for $15 (they ship from Cali) http://www.ebay.com/itm/271176205772?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D271176205772%26_rdc%3D1 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/271176205772?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D271176205772%26_rdc%3D1)  I do not know the code to compress the link...

Here are some pictures:

I put a 3/8" hole right into the plastic and threaded the bulb into it.  Very low profile.  Sorry it's a crappy picture.

If you notice in picture 1, 4 & 5, the top parking light bulb is burned out.  It looks like a 194, but it's a bayonet-base.

If yours burned out, like mine did, Radio Shack sells a cheap replacement.  The Radio Shack bulb is rated for 14V & 200mA - the factory bulb is 12V & 330mA (4W).  It comes in a two-pack and is only $2.49.  The new bulb is on the left, the old on the right.  The new bulb is slightly longer, but it fits perfectly.

I've bought 3 pairs of those same lights. I was going to wire 1 set into my low beam, and 2 into the high. I'm still debating on placement, I do like how yours light up the ground off to the sides, does that help with critter sightings? I opted to do away with my stock mirrors and turn signals for a pair of GSX mirrors with built in LEDs, and was thinking of mounting a pair in the fairing where the old mirrors were. And then cutting bezels out of 1/2" PVC and mounting a pair on the front of the reflectors for a clean unobtrusive look.  :yes
