In a past life, I was pretty heavy into the Swiss rifle scene, the only remnant of that is a tub of automatenfett. Anyone have any experience and/or opinions on the use of this Swiss grease? It's made for the maintenance of machine guns and is supposed to be some pretty good stuff. I know that it is lithium base with molydenum disulphide added in.
Here is some info I gleamed from a gun forum;
AUTOMATICS GREASE
Technical instruction card materials number: 2119.3328
ALN: 335-4809
Fat to the lubricating of automatic weapons
Characteristics and employment
The automatic grease is a special grease for the maintenance and engagements lubrication of all automatic weapons
also at low temperatures.
The additive of MoS2 guarantees good lubrication characteristics in particular for bolts under extreme
conditions of all automatic weapons. Special additives secure a high corrosion protection ability and
a high water resistance for the protection of the weapons against corrosion.
Fulfilled requirements

if i needed some fat to the lubricating of automatic weapons i would slather that automatenfett on my splines straightaway and not give it another thought...

I think you want 30-50% moly, hard to say how that stuff would work on splines but it would be better than nuttin :popcorm
-
It may be good for guns but how would it perform under the extreme pressure applied by the splines.

I swear by this: http://www.guarddogmoly.com/gd570.shtml (http://www.guarddogmoly.com/gd570.shtml)

My concern wouldn't be it's tolerance to heat but rather its tolerance to the spinning forces and its ability to withstand being spun off.

I bet you have a K-31 - right?

LOL, Over the years I had 10 or so Schmidt Rubin's (predecessor to the K31s) and probably 15 or so of the K31s. Fine rifles all of them, for a surplus gun, that at one time could be had for $75, they say to manufacture one to those standards today would make it a $1500 rifle. I gave one to each of my brothers. I just sold my last one about 6 weeks ago.

I have a C&R license and bought one ~6 years ago for $89.
I just love looking at it and working the action...
