Title: I am a bone head/need new bolt for oil sump cover
Post by: DangerD1967 on June 10, 2013, 11:32:49 AM
On a 94/k75s when trying to be cool/self sufficient by changing my own oil, I snapped one of the bolts. It is flush so I am having a good friend who is a mechanic carefully back it out. My question today is: Should I try to source out a true replacement or will any bolt of the same dimensions be adequate? I am celebrating owning this wonderful bike for a year and do not want to proceed in a bone head direction. Just for the record, I was only using a standard wrench with only human power when I snapped it off? Lastly if there is an owner in the Nashville Tennessee area that would like to mentor a rookie or go for a ride, please contact me...

Thanks

Dave

The bolt costs 89 cents at A&S (or any BMW dealer).  I tried to source nuts and bolts from places like home depot, but they are never "right".  The bad thing is if you're not close to a dealer, shipping is what will get you.  Although it is always worth asking the parts guy if they can just drop it in a first class envelope and put it in the mail out of goodwill.
