I guessing there must be an easy/correct way to do it, but since I've only had this (First) motobrick a couple of weeks and have never seen this problem before, maybe you'all can excuse my noobness and tell me why the rear wheel w/tire(Pirelli Diablo Strada 160/60-18) will not come off the rear of my '94 K1100RS because of insufficient room between exhaust can and brake rotor? :dunno2: I was taking the rear final drive off to lube the splines(new bike-start fresh :deal:) and could not squeeze the tire out even with the caliper removed. So does one have to remove the rotor assembly and/or the exhaust can every time one needs to remove and/or change tire? Or is there some other secret? Again I want to emphasize this problem and bike is totally new to me. I have had another shaft drive bike and currently 2 other chain drive bikes so it's not the first bike I've had( actually it's the 7th :riding:). Any HELP or flames if you feel it necessary are appreciated TNX.

what i do is remove the brake caliper bolts... remove the 5 wheel bolts... completely deflate the tior... wiggle the wheel out between the exhaust and the abs ring...

After I put the final drive back on and the wheel back on I was wondering if deflating the tire would make that much of difference to get it off. Seems to me to a design defect :bmwsmile not to allow sufficient room to get tire on and off while inflated. :dunno2: But hey I'm new to BMW way of engineering. I'm more familiar with KTM :hehehe

there is sufficient room if you can get your center stand up on a 2 by 4 or hang the tior off a curb or use a moto lift with a tior drop...

OK on board try, I have a small bike lift. Is the K1100 safe to lift from bottom of trans/engine just in front of the center stand?

Yes, even when I have my bikes on the table lift, I use the scissor jack under the oil pan. I do use a small piece of 1x6 between the jack and the oil pan. Unless you have the front or rear tied down when you are lifting from the bottom, I suggest you have someone to help steady the bike while you are lifting it with the jack.

K-bike noob here also, I replaced my rear wheel yesterday (93 k1100lt)- got a new Bridgestone Battleax BT-023 150/70/17 tire on the rim.
Wheel removal was pretty easy with bike on a 2x4 on the center stand, and with the brake caliper unbolted.
Some may claim manufacture defect if you have to deflate the tire, but I don't think you HAVE to deflate the tire I think you only have to unbolt the brake caliper real quick and you can squeeze even an inflated tire through. It does require some twisting, manipulation of angles, stuffed past the rear fender, but its not THAT bad..

Lt Runs a narrower tire/wheel combo then the RS. 4 bolts to get the mud flap off and it comes out noO problem on the center stand without pulling the brake caliper.

Deflated rear tire came off with just a tug or two without removing the caliper. Now where's that Fedex dude with the new one?!? I'm excited about trying out the Pirelli Angels.

You will probably have to deflate the tire till it's bolted up then re-inflate.

New Pirelli went on fine after removing the caliper. This is the first time I've done the tires myself and (apart from taking the new tire and old wheel to be mounted at the shop) I don't think I spent more than 15 minutes on removal and installation.
The Pirelli feels great and will probably get a chance for a wet ride tomorrow. I'll be ordering the front tire next week (although quite honestly after 12K + miles the Metzeler front tire is still doing great).
