hi all,
I have a problem with my k100rs 1984.
I thought I would lube the splines on the driveshaft on the diff end , when I pulled the diff off the whole shaft came with the diff, noticed the snapring had broken due to all the sliding move ment being done at that end. this maybe due to the shft being stuck to the diff end.
Any suggestions as to how I can free this off.

Almost sounds to me like the drive shaft and diff input splines are just about stripped and bound/wedged. Might explain why it won't come off.

there is nothing holding the shaft to the diff end. You just have to yank harder and pull. I think the transmission end was not installed right the last time the shaft was out. The ring can't really "break" because it is literally a circlip (#3) that is open ended. The clip can loosen, but I doubt that happened. Like others said, check the spline on the open end to see if that was a problem.

Thank you for you replies.
I have attached some pics showing the shaft stuck to the diff.
tried slide hammer and allsorts , loads of releasing fluid but no joy.
I will be taking it to a bmw bike shop today to see if they have anyway of getting it free.
As you can see the snap ring is broken and I presume all the slide action has been taking part at the gearbox end of the shaft
maybe the reason for the diff end becoming seized.

Just throwing this out there, but what if the wear pattern was great enough to allow the shaft to turn a bit and then lock up?
It's very odd, because as the parts wear they "should" get looser.
Maybe I'm not recalling the picture correctly, I will see if i can find it and explain a bit better. BRB. :yes

Have you tried reattaching the wheel to the final drive?It might allow a little more leverage so that maybe gripping the driveshaft and twisting back and forth might break the bond free.

hi all
took it to the bmw bike shop , they tried hot air gun on the shaft and slide hammer attached to the u-joint , but still solid no movement.
today taking it to a place where they rebuild shafts and u-joints, hope they can free it off.

Finally got them apart , took 3 of us to do it.
Used big slide hammer and heat.

before you put things back, make sure the mating surfaces are smooth to avoid leaks.
The dow (spelling?) looks bend and may need replacement.

hopefully I will put new dowels in before assembly but just spent an hour cleaning the surfaces and splines and there looking in good condition.
bought some Castrol moly paste for the splines.

I mixed Wurth 3000 grease with the moly. It is super sticky. If you're near by san Diego, be happy to give you some. The can I bought was 4oz which will probably last me my life time.
