Title: Fuel level sender

While I was waiting for a new fuel pump to replace the dead one, I used the time to take off the tank, inspect the fuel sensor, connectors and wiring. Also replaced the O ring that seals the fuel sender unit cover.

When I had  installed my new fuel pump, poured 8 liters of gasoline into my tank, and turned on the ignition, the needle on the fuel level gauge went to full very fast and stayed there. When I switched off the needle fell abruptly to zero. Now, I got pissed off and thought "did I really manage to ruin the fuel sensor in the process".

I took of the tank cap, turned on the ignition, and moved the lever with the plastic ball up and down several times.... and.... voila.... everything got back to normal. The needle now rises slowly to approximately the correct level and slowly sinks down when I switch off.

Maybe it´s a sign that the fuel level sender is going bad, maybe not. Anyway I am happy not to have to remove the tank again. And..... my baby is on the road again!

Hi. I bought  a fuel sensor from James Sherlock UK, used , cost  £ 40 plus post. Works perfectly
