Title: Top Air Box Removal
Post by: Westone on May 26, 2013, 08:22:29 PM
Hi, I am attempting to remove the top air box on top of the air filter and am having difficulty. The hose that exits the box and runs left to the resonating chamber on top of the throttle bodies is being stubborn. I don't want to tear it up, it looks in good condition and is $30 to replace. According to the PO it has been replaced during his tenure with the bike. After removing the clamp I pried at the end of the hose with a flat head screwdriver, but it just seemed it would tear before it gave way and loosened its grip on the air box outlet. Any suggestions?

ETA: Sorry forgot to point out that this is on my '88 K75S.

What bike are you working on.
What you are describing doesn't sound familiar with my 1100's.

Doh! For a minute there I thought this entire forum was devoted to my personal 1988 K75S.

Its connected inside to the air flow meter. Easiest way is to unscrew the airflow meter, then slide it out of the hose. Then the hose is easily removed.

I've always just loosened the fat hose clamp on the front hose of the airbox, and then removed the airbox top with the air flow meter and fat hose attached.

That works too

Thanks for the info. I'll try disconnecting the other end of the hose if I can get to the clamp screw. I'll say that when I was looking in the BMW online parts catalog at the diagram of the air box and hose, I fell out when I saw the price of the Air Flow Meter. Over a grand. I don't want to mess with that.
