Title: Timing a K75
Post by: TimTyler on May 11, 2013, 04:54:52 PM
I've read http://skylands.ibmwr.org/tom/tech/k75_timing.html (http://skylands.ibmwr.org/tom/tech/k75_timing.html) and the Timing Advance (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,3584.msg21489.html#msg21489) thread here.

Once the HES T-cover is removed, is there a timing mark that can be checked through that gap in the HES with a standard timing gun?

Finally bought a cheap timing light.

Followed the info at ibmwr.org and using a protractor image on the laptop, marked a 30 degree line on the disc.

After a few tries rotating the HES sensors I was able to get the 30-degree scribe to line up with the crankcase arrow at 4000rpm. At idle the notch in the plate is probably 8-10 degrees from the crankcase arrow.

The engine sounds smooth but I'm a little concerned with the positioning of the HES. For the last 30k miles it's been lined up symmetrically with the U-notch in the engine block, but now it's not. Should i be worried?

I just set the timing precisely for the first time since my rebuild. That's almost exactly where mine is set up for 33 degrees at 6000 rpm.

Mine looks the same as yours, did it just a couple of weeks ago.

Okay, cool.

Thanks, guys.
