Title: 92 K75RT speedometer flakey ..
Post by: scoobs on April 27, 2013, 08:03:02 PM
My speedometer/odometer has started acting up- when I reach around 45 mph the needle starts to drop back toward zero but picks up again when I reduce speed to around 35 mph. I've replaced the sensor and checked and cleaned the plug in connector and the plug at the back of the instrument cluster but the problem persists. Could it be the encoder wheel in the rear drive unit is slipping? It seems unlikely but this is kicking my @$$, I had to abandon a Bunburner 1500 ride this weekend because of this issue and am struggling to find a solution.
Cheers,

Simple to check, pull the sensor and try moving the encoder ring with something.  It is just a press fit on the gear, but I think you need to take apart the rear end to fix it.  Another likely culprit  an internal connection in the pod, lot of articles on that over on IBMWR http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech.shtml (http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech.shtml)
