Title: New Guy, New K1100RS Project, Unlike ANY of my previous projects...
Post by: Hobo on March 25, 2013, 10:30:40 AM
Posted an intro but thought I should start a thread of my recently-acquired K11RS project.  I've wrenched on old Harleys for about 20 years, so this will definitely be a new undertaking for me.  Always like the KRS look, have heard great things about the bikes, but my test ride was the first time I've ever rode one.  Trailered her 3-hours home and she gets her turn on the lift very soon...

My New-To-Me 1996 K1100RS:

Some of my previous projects, and just finishing up one of 'em:

Enjoy the new riding position.

It will definitely be a change Craig.  I'll probably use this thread to document my first dive into the splines, fuel filter, old hose changes, air filter, and other stuff.  My last five projects have been Pans and Shovels, so I'm looking forward to the change in scenery on my bike lift...

You'll be wishing you did the splines before you changed the transmission oil. DAMHIK.

Not a big deal....  Just drain it into a clean container and save it.

Save some money next time.... That "BMW" on the lube labels adds a lot of unnecessary cost.....

Guard Dog Moly from Beemer Boneyard is a great spline lube.

Measured valve clearance and all were good, but the only pic I took was one where I stuffed paper towels around the plugs before pulling the valve cover...

I was surprised how clean the inside of the tank was, and the fuel filter appeared to have been recently changed, but I replaced it anyway...

Cleaned the inside of the belly pan so I could identify any leaks from this point forward.

Started to change the fork oil and found one of the fill plugs was stripped.  Pulled the entire nut instead, but may replace both "just because"...

Hi Hobo! Did you buy those fuel lines from BMW? I need to change mine. Or can I use any fuel lines with the same size from any car place? Tnx

I just bought hose that could handle the fuel injection pressure from the local auto shop...
