Title: Checking Brake Pad Wear on K75
Post by: TimTyler on March 03, 2013, 04:24:10 PM
What's a worn brake pad look like when viewed while it's installed? I could not see any wear indicating marks.

Min spec is 1.5mm.

Thanks, Duck.

I pulled out one of the pads and I'm good at 4mm.

In reality it really doesn't matter unless it wears all of the way down to the metal back of the pad and destroys your rotor.

Sometime when they get around 1mm or so the pad can flake off all at once.  Don't ask

My experience is that as the pad material thins,  it tends to squeal more readily.  The back brake on my K75 was making a racket and, when I checked the pads, they were at minimum thickness.  No squeal with the new pads.

Disc squeal is caused by high frequency vibrations as the caliper pistons vibrate against the backs of the pads. Very easy to cure by spraying this on the backs of the pads:

I have found that the squealing can be cured by applying a thick layer of grease to the rotors as well.
Stopping then becomes an issue though.

Makes for an interesting ride though, no? LOL!

Apply the grease evenly to both sides or you will stop in circles  :loco:
