Million dollar highway is a kick ass road. I liked it much better than the notorious Deal's Gap.
Pavement is like glass _______________.
Spectacular views, enough said.

It's been on my list for a while. Johnny and I plan to ride it in July. Yeehaw....
-
I rode it back in 1997, going to the BMWMOA rally in Durango. I can remember being behind 10,000 motor homes and campers, took forever. But the drive was spectacular. I'm sure it has been upgraded since then. Will have to take another trip there, after motor home season is over..

Thanks for pointing that out. Johnny and I are both early risers so we'll plan to hit it at sunrise some morning before the motorhomes are rolling.
This is the same reason that I always ride the California coast mid-week before/after tourist season. That way I usually have the road to myself....

Durango to Ouray is an amazing road best taken early in the morning on weekdays, avoiding Holiday traffic periods.
The road from Cortez to Telluride offers amazing riding, too and is often less traveled. Still, one of our favorites is the road from near Gunnison to Lake City, over Slumgullion Pass and on to Creede where very little traffic is encountered after Lake City.
During the summer months motels fill early in most towns along these scenic highways. Camping is seldom a problem with lots of campgrounds, public and private, and lots of areas where undeveloped camping is allowed.

one of the biggest problems i found was trying to take pictures while moving :o

The road in to Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP is wonderful. We encountered it with absolutely no traffic, and the view at the top was spectacular.

Hey FDuck, did you get to come to CO and ride the Million Dollar Highway? If not this last summer, shoot for next sometime around the third week in June. Telluride Bluegrass is a KICKIN festival, happens right about then. If you like backcountry skiing, Red Mtn Pass is a great winter destination too.

Nope, didn't make it to the MD Hwy. I did take the other route (the one that goes by the entrance to Telluride) several years ago though.
Maybe next year....

TaosBrick, I just came home from a ride that included the Million $ Hwy and then up around New England and back to NC.
Point being, I LOVED 64 from Taos to Farmington. What a fricken treat and I hit all the high elevation stuff with just me, a few bovines and deer to be found. I caught some locals leaving Chama and it was an E ticket ride to Bloomfield where traffic got heavy. Great scenery and superb riding ;D
-
Wow - cool Bob! Yeah, 64 is a gass, especially the part between Tres Piedras and Tierra Amarilla. NO traffic, wicked fun curves, scenic high altitude terrain, I go out there frequently from Taos. Yeah, FD you gotta pay us a visit sometime, lots to explore btween NM and CO.
BTW, I havn't been getting any topic reply notifications of late. I just happened to stumble on this while trolling around the site.
And.. how does one graduate from "motobrick curious" to "novice motobricker"?
