Title: Double Fail today. Ignition Wires Broken... Cryptic Schematic
Post by: Qdude on February 14, 2013, 03:41:35 AM
The Lieberry is wonderful BTW, but I didn't find how to get the ignition off of the bike.

Got the tank off and tackled the wire bundles.
Wire bundles 1, Quinn 0

The bike will die  while I turn the bars. I thought I had a wire bundle plug coming apart, but as it turns out the power wire going to the ignition is broken and separates, thereby killing the bike. Lots of fun by the way.

How do I remove the explicative ignition?

Fail number two
My heated handgrips power is dead (repaired the rest of the circuit)
Here are the wiring diagrams I found, Black and White, Cryptic. The second one is at least on one page which makes it easier to trace.

So I find the wires leading to the "Plug Connection, Heated Handgrips", marvelous.
Brown wire traces to ground and has continuity, Gray/Black wire dives into main taped wire bundle presumably going towards a fuse block, check.
I trace it down on the schematic and discover that it is hooked up to a "Bulb Monitoring Device" and "Additional Instruments" which could explain why it registers continuity to ground, check.
Goes to a fuse, great, and by the schematic comes out G/Y and then turns into a dashed line that goes to nowhere...
Really?
I know Morse code and _._ .._. that spells KF...
What the hell is KF?
The dashed line is not included in the Legend and I see that it is used for the battery positive and for a couple of grounding wires. But those wires at least go somewhere on the schematic... they complete.

Wire Bundles 2, Quinn 0

All kidding aside I am learning more about the bike so it was not a waste of time, but I was able to repair nothing tonight.
I am very reluctant to pull the neatly bound bundle apart, but if that is the only way I will.
That wire had been 12V not more than 48 hours ago, now it is dead.
Does it get its current from the other accessories that it touches?
I tested all fuses and checked for power key on and off (broken wire accounted for).
Any hints or better schematics?

If it's the ignition switch you have in mind, have a look at this (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,656.0.html).

The green/black wire which is the power feed to the heated grips comes from fuse #1.
Fuse #1 also feeds brake light switches, instruments (and others)....do you got brake light
and power to the instruments?

BTW. which model and year do you got?

Inge: 93 LT

Q:

Gray/black is the tail light.  As Inge points out, HG power is green/black.

To remove the ignition switch from the upper fork tree you need to drill out the security bolts.

Since you're close to my house, I can come over and help you - but it will cost you a 12-pack of Heineken.

Hey guys !!

Oops. I messed up on the wire color. I typed Gray (at least I did not type Grey and make myself really look stoopid)

A 12 pack of Heineken? But what would you drink then?

You got it man !!
