I am trying to make my 1992 K75RT in to a slight cafe racer but not all the way.
Fairings removed, round headlight added. I liked the look but had to many people make coments at the large brick gauge cluster. So cafe style fairing added. Still to go front turn signals paint I'm thinking white replace badges and a custom solo seat shaped to the rear fairing.

Nice project and bike.

If you like the look of the naked style then you could just swap in less intrusive gauges. I believe that some on here have done something of the sort so, if you ask around, you should be able to find some help.
Personally I like both looks (BTW, Nice find on the little chin fairing :2thumbup:.)

As to the seat....Both Corbin and BMW have made something similar to what you describe. Corbin had two saddles, one was one of their rumble seats(cant remember the name they used for it back in the day) and the other was a solo called a gunslinger. Now days these seats are out of production, though you can still find them used on occasion (Corbin will re-cover for $400-ish dollars).
BMW's seat was called the solo AFIK.

Back in the late 70's and early 80's Fu-bars and some Z-bar types were popular. I suggest that you find a bar with only a 2"-3" rise and a profile that allows for it to be flipped (Flipping the bars is purely dependent on your preferred ratio of racer-style vs. comfort).

I am doing same with a k100rt.
Again agree with speedo assembly being Huge and was going aftermarket but found out what it would cost :yow ,so instead I lowered it using some alum. Square stock at Lowes and mounted it to that. Will see how it looks when I get bike down off of work table.

That sounds like a great idea lowering it. but that cafe fairing hides it very well.

Just plasti-diped the bike in mat black to see how well it works. I think it came out good. Nice thing is if I don't like it later I a can pull it off.

Did you prep/primer it at all or just spray it on?  I just picked up a K100 that needs a cheap makeover so that sounds like a good option.

With the exceptions of my K1100 LT and RS, I only buy K bikes that other people are afraid to buy - and then bring them back to life.

No I just sprayed it right on. no prep needed except for cleaning the bike

Hadyn, how has the plastic coating held up to nicks and scratches? Did you buy spray cans or a gallon and spray nozzle? I'm thinking of doing a matte black murder out on my k100 cafe too

Hi everyone - new to this forum - be gentle with me!
This is my K100 freshly purchased a couple of weeks ago and have started putting my own take on it, encouraged by seeing some excellent looking machines on here and further afield (racer on bsk speedworks in particular - although I recon I have a ways to go before one of those beauties materializes out of this!) but just wanted some suggestions for a different battery as the original is huuuuge and as most of the electrics have now disappeared I wondered what anyone could suggest as a diet version?

I also had to modify a K RT due to plastics being damaged, or worn out.
Yes the battery is huge. Pre-owner has a lawn tractor batt. in mine wht. in at 26lbs. Once it dies I will be going to a Lithium battery. At only 3.5lbs and half its size I will put it in same location for easy access, but it will not be noticed as much due to its size.
