Post by: branandfox on January 10, 2013, 10:49:04 AM
Im shopping for all my upgrades for my K100, one of the upgrades im unsure is even that viable is the magnetic drain plugs for the tranny, Final drive, and engine. as listed here:

anyone have these and notice a good increase in helping to filter out contaminants?

FD and tranny have them from the factory.  Yes, they work.

Anything in the engine oil should be picked up by the filter.

Your bike already has perfectly good FD/tranny magnetic drain plugs in it from the factory. Why bother replacing them?

Don't know if it would help anything, but couldn't hurt to have one in the sump too.  I'd be curious to see what if anything it picked up, and if chunks showed up it could alert you to an impending meltdown.

I wouldn't use the reusable stainless filter. There is no need. The stock filter has plenty of flow, and a good quality one is fully capable of filtering everything out. You can use the high quality Bosch ones, rather than the BMW ones, for ~3 bucks a piece.
