Hi Guys
lightly starnge question - for the first time I've actually read the procedure for checking valve clearances in the Clymer manual and it seems to say check the clearances with the piston at TDC. Now both of the valves are closed at TDC I get that but the cam lobes are not a full 180 degrees from the cam follower at that point.
When I've done it in the past I've always measured them with the cam 180 degrees from the follower, have i been doing it wrong.
My clearances have always been right doing it my way but I'm just getting a feeling I've screwed it up every time !

180 degrees is how I do it. (and remember that the intake valves are angled upward and the exhaust valves angled downward)

They are mild cams, so it doesn't make too much of a difference. The logic of TDC for a piston is that it is easily reproducible, and close to 180 degrees for the valves.
