Title: Tune Up
Post by: argent brick on November 14, 2012, 12:51:43 AM
Hi Everyone,

The only thing that I have ever done to my K75 is change the battery. I would like to do a "tune up."

Just what does that include and how hard is it?

Check the valve clearances, put new spark plugs in and make sure the throttle bodies are ballanced well.  Maybe check the ignition timing but it usually doesn't move from year to year and once you know it is right leave it alone.

Clean the air filter and change the fuel filter too.

Tune ups have fairly much gone by the wayside. It's more like regular maintenance now that points ignition and screw adjustable tappets are a thing of the past.
My BMW car all it needs is a set of plugs every 20000 and it's done, the rest is by the maintenance schedule.

There are major and minor tune ups. Minor would be an oil change and checking things.  Major is air and fuel filters, splines, plugs (mine seem to last forever) I try to do coolant and brake fluid changes every other year.
