The previous owner of my K75S gave me a Brick top case that will go on my luggage rack. However, he didn't have a key for it (it is unlocked). The best local locksmith shop in town doesn't want to touch the BMW lock.
Is there a locksmith I could send the lock and one of my keys to and get the lock rekeyed? I have the round locks on the cases. My side cases are the type 2 cases, mottled texture on the case. The top case is all black but has a smooth texture on the lid.
I hope I won't get kicked out of the forum for putting a top case on a K75S. That isn't sacrilegious or anything is it?

There are posts that walk you through the process yourself. See IBMWR, for example. Not having a key for a topcase I recently bought sent me to the local lock smith for the rekey. Call me chicken, but I have never gotten along too well with locks. :dunno2: I paid $35 and I think it was money well spent. This apparently was not rocket science. I did, however, have a hard time getting the damned lock out of the case. It appears the DPO had cemented it in place! I soaked it will a product called Goof Off and was able to wrestle the lock out the following day. Good luck with yours.

A locksmith who will not touch a BMW lock is not in my opinion a worthy locksmith. The locks on a K are about as ordinary as they come.
I have had a locksmith do one for me and have done a couple myself following the info on the IBMWR site.

I agree with Rick G on the worthiness of said locksmith. I once took a gas tank full of old nasty smelly gas to my locksmith and they made me a new key for $40.
The no hassle approach would be to just buy a new lock core and key (51252303682) for about $25 and a new lock housing (51162303024) for about $23 and then modify the new lock core to work with your ignition key before installing it.

Taking your old lock in to a locksmith is a gamble. If he is not used to working on BMW locks, you get to pay for his learning curve. Also, he may not have the correct parts, so they have to be ordered. Recently, I was quoted $50 to swap keys in a padlock and I had the keys! Fifty bucks for job that takes less than ten minutes and I bring the work to him. Man, I am in the wrong job field.
If you feel that you must DYI, there is tons of info on the web to help you. Many locks use round pins inside but your lock uses flat pieces instead.
If I remember they are called wafers. If you are lucky, your old parts can just be moved around in the lock to match the key used for your bike.
IBMWR's website is a great place to start reading, but there are many more websites to help you. READ ALL OF THEM before you tear into your lock.
Also, make sure that you read the websites about Neiman keys also. They are the OEM supplier for BMW.
I have to agree with Frankenduck on this one. Less hassle to buy new core with keys and then make the modifications. If you buy the new lock and housing from your local dealer, they may change the key over for you at no charge. It is a simple job and your dealer will have the parts

An added wrinkle I just found - The BMW keys are steel. None of my local hardware stores or the local locksmith, who has been able to handle every previous problem, have the carbide wheel necessary to cut the blanks I ordered from a dealer to match my keys. Education is expensive :-)

I ended up sending the lock and a key to Duncan's Beemers in MA. I should have it back next week.

Just received it back, along with the key code for my key.
They included a business card which states:

Too bad they are so far away from East Texas. Looks like I need to plan a New England road trip.
