Title: Gear indicator and other strangeness
Post by: Bun-bun on October 11, 2012, 12:55:19 AM
So I got the K75 running this morning, probably the first time it has run in years. Now it's time to appeal to the deep well of K-bike knowledge in this forum to fix a few gremlins that have popped up.
1) The gear indicator thinks it's in 4 when it's actually in first gear. It goes up to 5 when I shift into second, after that it just goes blank. Any way to fix this?
2) Is the fuel pump supposed to be that noisy?
3) The alternator light comes on at idle, goes off when revved. Normal?

I eagerly await enlightenment.

1. Measure your GPI switch, check this (http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech/trans-switch.shtml) link.
2. If your fuel level is rather low, yes.
3. If it only glows at idle, it`s normal.

1.I had a similar probelm with my gear indicator, mine would go 5-4-blank-blank-4-5. I replaced the indicator circuit board in the instrument cluster and that fixed it. Moisture could have gotten in the cluster and shorted something. Check your GPI switch first though like Inge said.

2.+1

3.+1 Much more than a dim glow and you'll want to start check stuff.

1) Other possible causes:

a) Loose/failing connector under right battery cover.

b) Bad connection on back of inst. cluster.  Sometimes the female terminals get pushed i n when that is put back on.

Gear Position Indicator (GPI) (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=517.0)

2) That's why thy're called "K whiners."  Usually more noticeable when the tank is low.

3) If it stays out for good then  you should be OK.

Im having exact same problem with gear indicator/neutral light playing up

Im going with the cheap option of sticking some tape over it!  :laugh
