Title: Anyone use a non-OEM fuel pressure regulator? ( K75S)
Post by: Zagando on October 08, 2012, 04:24:40 PM
Anyone here ever replace a stock fuel pressure regulator with a non-BMW one?  If so, what brand and model number and is it working OK?

My '94 K75S needs a new one and the stock FPRs run $152 + shipping from the dealer.

All suggestions welcome!

Thanks,   Jeff aka Zagando

Its a 2.5 bar regulator. Should be the same as a fuel injected super beetle, but not 100% sure.

Wmax351; Believe you were right on target with your Super Beetle suggestion;  did some further searching and learned that the Standard PR134 fits the bill perfectly for my K75; it is/was also OEM equipment on many models of Porsches, VWs, Audis, Jaguars, Chrysler, AMC and Jeep brands.   37 PSI (instead of 36PSI but may just be a rounding up of their figures) and same M12x1.5 mounting thread on the top.

Looks identical to my OEM BMW one down to the color of metal.

Best price I found after an hour of searching around: $51.08 shipped to me in ABQ via Amazon.com; next best was RockAuto at $53.03---that's less than ONE THIRD the cost of OEM!  Yippee!

I'll try to post a follow up here once it arrives and I get it installed (that's not going to be fun, but...)

I know this post is toast but I'm wondering if anyone found any solutions to that aftermarket fuel pump. I've got a K100RS that needs one and I'd rather save myself 100 bones if I can. What's the word? Holla

If you need a pump, I got one from the local car wreckers off a BMW 316i that works fine. Had to muck about with the fitting clips and rubbers but not too difficult if you get the complete assembly from the car which includes some fitting bits and bobs.

As for the regulator.... Any news? How'd that alternative go?

Weighing in late, but I thought I'd share my experience.  Pretty much everything on the Brick related to fuel injection is Bosch, and Bosch makes very few bespoke parts -- their catalog is deep enough that they can serve pretty much any application.

What that means is there is almost certainly another application for most of the parts, and that application is potentially cheaper.  In the US market, Bosch supplies VW, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, SAAB, certain years of Jaguar, and many Fords.  In Europe the selection is even broader.

Bosch FPR's come in a number of form factors, but the most common are "inline", which has barb/flare i/o for hose connection, and hard mount, which mounts direct to a fuel rail with an o-ring.  Depending on what the bikes use, there are probably a dozen alternate applications.

Other than impedance, Bosch fuel injectors are almost all identical in size and form factor (which means you can get the sealing O-rings and replacement electrical plugs cheap at NAPA).  In general, there are low and high impedance windings.  On cars, L-Jet use high impedance, I can't confirm on the bikes as I don't know enough yet.  Motronic systems use low impedance, and there is a newer version (referred to as EV6) that has 4 holes instead of one, for better fuel vaporization.  They are approved for E85 fuel, and in most applications improve mileage.  I swapped from EV1 to EV6 on my V6 Alfa, and it provided a noticeable improvement in low end grunt.

Anybody besides Zagando (MIA) ever use the PR134 fuel pressure regulator?

Both Amazon reviews (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C7YAJ8/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000C7YAJ8&linkCode=as2&tag=cinematographyco&linkId=C74BGHPXJQ3FSWQB) state K75 compatability, but I'm still skeptically curious.

I bought the Bosh part off Amazon using the Bosh part number.  $62.00 as I recall.  Can't speak about this item.

Thx for the tip!

I found it on Amazon and ordered. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CO6J8U/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001CO6J8U&linkCode=as2&tag=cinematographyco&linkId=UDDM5BP6DHTYWEYV) It's still $62.

It is the same Bosh part just without all the outrageous BMW markup.

I am not sure about the k100 and the after market regulator, yet. I have put a variable one on a bmw 735i, set it for the 42 lbs - which I might add has been working now for a number of years. I have now ordered a similar one for the bike K100rs - which I will put on it when it arrives...
