Title: Doing clutch spline lube; is a new exhaust gasket absolutely necessary?

Or is it somewhat "universal" meaning I can find a replacement at a auto store? No one has one in stock right now around... Thanks!

It's not totally required and is easy to install later but a little exhaust will leak out from there until you install a new one.

I haven't had one for decades with no ill effects, but have an aftermarket pipe.  Heard of using some aluminum foil in place of the gasket, never tried it.

I rolled a piece of .41mm colorbond steel to make one and it fits just right.  Or as my granny used to say like a finger in a bum. :hehehe

Is that a typo?  Are you sure it wasn't your tranny, not your granny?  :yow

Well it wasn't really my Granny it was my grandad and I picked up a lot of very colourful expressions from him much to my dads disgust.

I've reused the gasket on my pipe several times and no leaks, but I made sure it wasn't damaged on the removal.

My bike came to me without one and the footpeg bracket was broken on that side.
I cobbled up a shim from a thin walled tube from an old direct vent heater pipe but
there was a gap and I was worried it would backfire more than normal so I bit the
bullet and got a new one. They are very soft and malleable, if you don't damage it
getting it off then back on, go ahead and reuse it but if it mushes up you will have
to wait for a new one...

I just used some muffler tape on mine. Seems to have worked well.
