So I just found this auxiliary power outlet on my 1992 K75s the other day. What accessories are out there that plug into this? Can I hook up a phone charger by chance lol I tried looking all this up on Google but I just keep getting results for the actual part its self.

Can I hook up a phone charger by chance
Short answer: yes.
You will need to get a Powerlet to cigarette lighter adapter for your phone charger. Something like this:

Are you talking about the one down by the coils?
BMW makes a battery charger that fits it. I have also seen an aftermarket set of jumper cables that will plug in as well. Do not use the jumper cables or the charger on the outlet by your key switch.
In the past, BMW has made a heated vest that would work on that plug. It was like the one made by Eclipse but sported a different plug. I think Eclipse made it. Do not know if it is still made. If you want one, buy the Eclipse version and save yourself some cash. If you still use the old System series helmets from BMW, the heated visor will plug in too. If you use that helmet we need have a little talk about a new skid lid.
An adapter is made so that you can run a normal phone charger like you would use in your car. Any BMW motorcycle dealer should be able to get it.
Try A&S, I think it runs about $15.

Nice! Those will work perfectly these K bikes have a lot of cool hidden fetters. I only posed the question because the other day I was riding back home in the morning after waking up hungover from a party at my friends place to find that my phone was dead and no charger available. Now I can just get an extra car charger for the bike just in case. :2thumbup:

I'd advise against riding hung over. Your situational awareness suffers or you might even fall asleep and total your first K bike. DAMHIK.

I know this is an old thread, but do all K75 have an aux outlet? I have an 86 75C and can't find one. :( Want to add a usb powerlet
-
All K75s should have the hole in the plastic coil cover that makes it "power outlet ready". The BMW power outlet was an option that a buyer could add to the bike at the time of ordering or later. Normally, there is a plug that covers the hole if the option hasn't been added to the bike. There are connectors in the relay box of all K75s, as part of the wiring harness and into which the power outlet was plugged.
You can see the optional power outlet installed on this K-bike, at the bottom of this photo:

They are also known as Merit plugs you can buy universal plugs that have a removable end ( normally red ) and convert from a standard cigarette plug to a Merit by removing it. You can also buy Merit sockets and a Merit to cigarette lighter cable. You should be able to get them from Tandy or any good automotive outlet. I have converted a lot of items to the Merit connector. See site http://www.powerlet.com/learningCenter/welcome-bmw-owners.

Thanks Robert, that explains it. Have the hole, with a plastic plug(not flip up outlet cover) and a gaping hole of "PO didn't buy that option" behind it. Thanks for clearing that up.

Hi, I know this is quite an old thread, but my questions are relevant.
I have a K100 (naked) with no auxiliary power outlet. I will probably fit a BMW/merit socket but wondered if the original wiring harness actually included a provision for this or do I need to go back to the fuse box? What connectors?
There is a fuse dedicated to fitting an outlet but perhaps it would be better to simply wire it back to the battery (via a fuse) so that the socket can double as a connection point for a battery maintenance charger?
Is the standard BMW socket "always live" or only on with the ignition?
-
I could be wrong, but I believe there is a connector in the harness that is for the auxiliary outlet. It should be around the relay box just above the ignition coils.
On my bikes the auxiliary outlet is always live. I use it as the connector for my battery maintainer which is equipped with a Hella connector.
-
Jaycar is a good source in OZ for Merit sockets.

what gryph said.
plus, i added a direct to battery two prong din connect with fuse that i use for charging (that is the standard charger plug) and i have a USB converter with same style plug for charging phones and SENA system.
primarily use BMW plug for heated vest.

I've been trying to wire up a USB outlet to the hella plug under the seat / near the coils. I haven't been having any luck. Looks like the hella plug is wired in correctly but I'm not getting any juice. Any thoughts for troubleshooting this?

Can you get in there for a photo of your wiring job clear enough to analyze?

Thanks for the quick reply Laitch. I can, but it is going to take me 24 hours or so at this rate.
Curious if there is a fuse or relay that might be the culprit? I will attach a photo asap.
