Title: Relocating ignition barrel switch, suggestions? removing the crash pad
Post by: Gubro30 on August 31, 2012, 01:08:05 PM
I've seen some in the lower part of the air-box (Special Ks bikes), any other suggestions?

What about the heated grip switch?

Thanks!

Possibly through the accessory outlet hole on the coil cover for a K75.

Or if you perform the headlamp modification as with the other Special-K's, then the ignition switch is in the headlamp bucket.

I dont have any really good ideas for the heated grip switch except to maybe use a micro-toggle SPDT switch in a discrete place and use it to switch a relay pair that activates the heated grips (one relay = low power; other relay = high power).

You could rewire a Euro headlight switch to turn the heated grips on and off.  It would just be an on/off switch but you really want to avoid using the low setting anyhow since it's been known to cause issues due to the resistive wire in the circuit heating up it's insulation, melting it off and causing a short.

Very interesting re the low setting, very useful info that popped up!

Here's what I did.

Now that my ABS is off, I have no other switches to worry about.

Here's an idea maybe? The ignition barrel should be roughly the same size as a cigarette lighter?

Would a slash 6 headlight bucket work?  They have the key switch built in on the left hand side.

@argent brick: Idea is good but I'm not (yet) going that route; I like the K100 std fairing I have now on it. I think I'll just have a mount machined for it!

I would be willing to bet money that the headlight buckets will interchange with a slight work around for the key switch.  Assuming of course that the
headlights are the same size.  The K100 std fairing does look decent though. Almost as good as a naked K75.
