Title: Open-ended heated grips? Also is it possible to use after-market bars with heated grips?
Post by: Gubro30 on August 25, 2012, 11:27:26 AM: I have the original, closed rubber end BMW heated grips. I want to install bar-end mirrors to replace the mickey-mouse ears original ones.

How can I do this? Did BMW make open ended heated grips? Can the end of the grips be cut or is it where the wires attach?

Lastly, can I use aftermarket bars with the oem heatedgrip setup?

Post by: frankenduck on August 25, 2012, 11:43:58 AM: BMW added bar ends wiith heated grips by cutting a notch in the end of the handlebar and having a hollow mount for the bar ends that the HG wiring could pass through.

If you want to install bar end mirrors:

a) Maybe you could run the wires under the grip rubber. :dunno Make sure the throttle side wires don't chafe when you twist the throttle.

b) Aftermarket heated grips with an OEM switch (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=328.0)

Why? It's not like handlebars are subjected to a lot of force/stress. Drilling and tapping a couple of holes for the left heated grip shouldn't matter.

I'm back from a 3days 1000miles ride with a friend who's on a 2010 Duc Monster 796, and now I'm definitely longing for a handlebar setup like his (lower, a bit straighter and wider. I'm 6'5" and am always on the very end of the bars)

Flanders makes some 22mm bars though.

7/8 is 22.225mm, you think that would be too tight?
