The table at the link below is useful for determining the minimum wire gauge for a 12V circuit based on the power required by the circuit and the length of wire used.

It's also important to note that, given the vibrations and stresses that vehicle wires are subjected to, stranded wire is preferable to solid or single strand wire.

Also, this isn't a race bike, or an airplane, so weight is not much of an issue. More amps = more better.

I have 12 gauge wire running for my headlights and other power for the front.
