Title: Clutch Pack Balance Marks
Post by: TimTyler on August 11, 2012, 05:11:35 PM
So when I pulled the clutch pack it pretty much exploded onto the floor. Clumsy me. No chance of knowing its original balance configuration.

After cleaning, two parts have obvious markings, however the pressure plate has a marking on each side and I can't decide which is the one to use.

The more obvious pressure plate marking is white paint over a drilled indentation, while the mark on the other side is a faint yellow on the flexible band.

If I were to choose the painted white markings on each pressure piece, those marking would be almost 180 degrees apart when assembled.

If you have experience with these clutches please let me know the kind of marks you have seen and used.

Sorry no help but Motobins is selling a complete clutch for $65 see here (under special offers);

I wonder if it comes prebalanced? Or with marks?

That won't be pre balanced, when I put mine back together I put all the drillings at 120 degrees from each other (or as close as I could get it) seems to have worked so far!

I put mine back together without matching any markings to see if it would do anything (hey, somebody's gotta try it...). No problems so far *knock on wood*

In any case, line up the white markers together and put them 120 degrees either way from the yellow marker on the clutch housing if you want to stick with the Clymer.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I decided to space out the three obvious markings which ended up putting them at about 12 o'clock, 4 o'clock, and 9 o'clock.

I hope to rev it up on Sunday.

Before you put it back make sure the pressure and drive plate are now warped.  They sometimes get a dish in them and then only grab at the outside edge of the plate.
Put a straight edge across and check for a dish.
If there is a dish then you need a new plate because it just isn't worth machining them.
