Bike was under repair since June 5 decided tonight would finally be the night for an evening cruise. Pulled it out of the shed, started it up, and somehow without releasing the clutch it's practically in gear, there was some clutch but not much. It's almost as if the cable stretched overnight, I originally replaced the clutch friction disc/o-ring, adjusted the clutch by the book and, it seemed to work alright because the wheel didn't engage on the center stand.
I'm aware the clutch boot is sticking out quite a bit and the clutch arm nut is screwed far also, however I replaced the clutch friction plate so I thought this was to compensate for that distance. Could I have adjusted the arm/nut completely wrong? Was fiddling around at the lever trying a tighter cable but no difference...does it need a new clutch cable? Maybe I stretched it going through all this mumbo jumbo...thoughts?

Thanks, this is exactly what I did. Weird. Guess I'll take the wheel off and try it again.

Rear wheel removal is not necessary to adjust the clutch.

You're right thanks just a lot of crap in the way and i wish I had smaller arms :yes I'll try it again in the morning, I just found it hard to believe because I followed the procedure exactly, twice in fact for good measure, that it it was still 1/2 engaged.

I know the feeling...been reserrecting a wrecked K1100. keep on keepin on and it will finally work out. The clutch cable adj. is more...important, touchy, feely, sensitive? than i thought. I had a ringing clutch until i tweaked it enough now it works fine. I removed rear wheel, i dont know how to get to the locknut in that tight a spot.
good luck, its nearly too hot in the midwest to ride...cripes..

No joke, I adjusted my clutch 10 times this morning by the book and it's still engaged :( Any other suggestions?

Ripping her apart last night noticed I have a loose bearing at the boot that the clutch rod slides into, seems like there's a lot of play in it, not sure if that's part of the cause. This morning I'm removing the tranny again in the hopes of taking pictures for you guys of what the clutch assembly looks like. Swore I'd put everything exactly where it should be the first time around...stay tuned.

The stupidity when I learned that I'd somehow messed up the order when installing the clutch. Didn't have the friction disk between the Housing cover and the pressure plate. :loco: Live and learn.

Good you found the problem, I won't laugh as I too have done heaps of dumb things. As a friend says "the reason we learn from our mistakes is so that we recognize them when we repeat them".
