Title: hot legs on k1100ltse
Post by: steved on July 28, 2012, 01:33:33 PM
Just bought 97 k11ltse and on days over 90 my legs
from ankle to knee on motor side are medium rare
after a half-hour or so. I read where the wind screen
causes an up draft that draws the motor heat right up
over a riders legs. Don't really want to modify screen,..
any other remidies. Sprung Chicken in Cowlumbus, OH

look for the "johnny blanket" post, its a piece of reflective insulation cut and placed under tank and seat area...supposedly helps somewhat.  Your legs are gonna get roasted, wear vented/mesh type riding pants or jeans..and some loose boots.

there will be all kinds of surprises with your new bike,  look at the 'lieberry' section here for many good write ups on how to keep these bikes going.   They have good engines, but, other things tend to go, routine maint. is important.  I think the heat these things create causes a lot of the rubber seals to age quick, and some design weaknesses (spline drives, shafts, etc.)  Welcome to shop!

Seal up the kneepad area as well as you can to force the air out the fairing vents also.
Kuryakyn (http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/460/Longhorn-Offset-Dually-Highway-Pegs) also make some killer pegs I use to stretch out and get my legs some fresh air once in awhile. Heaven.
