Title: K75 and Sears Cycle lift
Post by: BuffaloRider on July 27, 2012, 04:33:32 AM
I'm real new to the Bricks and just bought a '94 K75 non ABS model as a alternative to my '99 Yamaha Road Star 1600.
I'm doing a lot of service work myself and have done the shaft & splines, rear brakes pads, engine/trans/drive fluids and have a set of Michelin Pilots on the way.
A local shop is going to mount the tires for me (needs them for WV inspection) so I want to pull both wheels at the same time.

I have Sears cycle lift/stand that handles the big Yamaha but she has two sturdy frame rails to sit on so I can jack it up, tie it down and not worry.
The K has only that nice, finned oil pan and the lift pads on the jack barely hit that.
While I'm sure that I can arrange extra contact points can the K bikes be safely lifted like this?
I dread the idea of damaging my newest addition. I've only ha dit a week or so an have already racked up over 250 miles just doing "test rides" as I have finished various things.

Any advice?

Pile up some phone books under the engine:

I bought a couple lengths of angle iron from Metal Supermarket and drilled them to align with the M8 threaded holes on the oil pan. I installed the pieces on either side of the oil pan with M8 bots and use them to raise the bike using my lift. They form outriggers that stabilize the bike on the stand, yet I still use tie-down straps to secure the bike while raised for safety.

No, they're for the "crash" (i.e. parking lot drop) bars.

In CA I just use the scissor jack from my dad's car with a block off wood on top of it.
