Title: 170lbs rider, 1986 K75C - suspension question (oil wt and volume)
Post by: Gubro30 on July 26, 2012, 10:30:11 PM
All in the title  :hmm:

I've read people using anything from 3WT to 10WT and 15WT in the forks..!

Also, I have a Progressive 465 shock I believe (with adjustable damping and nitrogen valve) - what should the rear sag be for an optimal ride? I'm also guessing it's due for a refresh, how long do those shocks go before having to be re-tuned?

Thanks!

I guess I'll speak to the fork oil, everyone's different.
I'm about 160, and I use 10wt in my forks.
I also have Radial tires on the bike too. The radials should have just a little bit more "give" in the sidewalls when hitting a bump and flexing the suspension. The Bias ply tire will be a little bit stiffer in the side wall area I believe, and potentially make for a harsher ride.

Start with some 10wt, and see how the ride is for you. if it's too soft, drain some out(measure how much you remove) and add some heavier oil back in(same amount you removed).
Likewise if the ride is too firm, add back some lighter weight oil instead.

Just different oil may make enough of a difference for you. Some riders have gone as far as new springs and oil to get their ride how THEY like it.

Try 1-1/2 inch sag, adjust damping by feel, ride quality. What Scott said for front.
