The handlebars of my 1985 K100RS were a bit bent, so I replaced them with a pair from the K1100RS model. These bars are a bit wider, but given the weight of the bike I thought that would be a good thing. I've since found the plastic cover (which BMW terms the hubcap) is a poor fit. There is a gap of about 1" from the end of the cover to the switch gear - not very tidy looking. Consulting the parts fiche, it seems the K100RS cover is part# 32711453157 and the fiche pix shows ports for mounting 4 rocker switches. The K1100RS cover is part# 32712309740 and shows ports for mounting 3 rocker switches. This doesn't seem correct according to my experience. My cover - the one with the gaps between the switch gear and the ends of the cover has provision of 3 switches.
Is the BMW parts fiche bass ackwards? If I find the cover with provision for 4 rocker switches, would it be the right fit with the K1100RS bars to eliminate the gap?
Anyone have experience with this mystery? Ta

Parts catalog is correct.
The K1100RS pad won't work with you ign. switch.
The four switch square pad will work. There's still a gap but it won't be as ugly. I have that setup on my K75 - K1100RS bars w/ 4 switch pad. Will post a pic later.
(I also have a 4 switch pad with a Powerlet hole for sale if you're interested.)

Thanks for sharing the photo, Doctor. That bar cover/pad seems to be from an LT perhaps? I had originally thought my bike's was stock OEM but now I'm unsure. All the K100RS and K1100RS fiche illustrations I've checked show the ignition switch centered on the bar cover. Mine is to the left. So, where does this one I have come from?
You mentioned the ignition wouldn't work if I fitted a cover/pad from a K1100RS. Is that because the wiring wouldn't reach the center port for the switch?
I'll try to attach a pix of my current set-up with the K1100 bars and the cover/pad that I thought was OEM K100RS.

You got the genuine dash pad to a K100RS2V.
On this the ignition switch is mounted at the dash pad.
On a 4V/K11, the ignition switch is mounted at the upper fork bridge (with a integrated steering lock).

Thanks for the confirmation. That part doesn't appear in any of the parts fiches I've seen.
I've decided I'd best learn to live with the cobbled together look of mixing K1100RS handlebars with the K100RS plastic cover/pad. On balance, I think it's an improvement because the bike is easier to turn and control. Oddly enough, the K1100RS bars don't seem to buzz as much as the K100RS bars. However, I've not put many miles on the bike in this new configuration. Early next month I'll be riding a lot in Oregon and Washington, so that should be a good test. :yes
