Title: best cheap fuel filter?

I remember reading somewhere on this site that there are good replacement fuel filters for the brick other than the expensive OEM ones, but i can't locate the threads. I know this topic has been beat down to hell, but I must ask, which is the best affordable fuel filter for the bike? I've read through other forums that a cheaper filter is not a good idea, but hey, it's just a filter. Ebay has them for $30, but I read that a guy bought a Hastings GF2 fuel filter for a few bucks at his local auto store and has put thousands of miles on it so far. Any recommendations?

Deutsch FF424 available at Autozone for a couple bucks.  Fits perfectly, all steel (strong) I've used em for many years.

They've been plastic at Autozones around here for the part several years.

I bought a luber finer ff3424. Seems solid enough. Now I need to replace the fuel line. I see that the submersible fuel lines are going for nearly 30 bucks a foot! Geeze. What would happen if I use a regular good quality fuel line? Is there a way to coat it? I know i'm being cheap, but hey, it's 30 bucks for a friggin fuel line!.... and i'll need more than a foot!!! :eek2:
