Title: new Abs light query
Post by: Duc750 on June 27, 2012, 06:46:40 PM
Hi Guys a new one for me tonight having just pout a new ABs II modulator in the bike tonight (well new to me and its off an r1100r but the same part no) I've got the alternate lights. So I reset it (several times as its showing a front sensor fault. Can get the lights to both stay on but not fals in unison. Ok so its gettong dark on the door step so I start the bike up to ride her into the garage and continue playing. As I ride away the Abs tries to self test but doesn't clunk and both lights come on solid with no flash, any guesses?

The R and K ABS II brains, although they have the same part number, are programmed differently.  You need to take it to a dealer who knows what they're doing to get it reprogrammed for use on a K.

It'll be just like a non-ABS bike - with an annoying flashing light.  Hitting the ABS switch will make it stop flashing for about 5 minutes, then hit it again when it starts flashing again.

And then you get out the black electrical tape and make it go away.  (cover the light)

Just as an update to this - Our local BMW dealership has found they still have a GT1 in a cupboard and are going to plug it in and see if it works. Its one of the range of tools they were instructed to destroy a few years back when the new systems came in. The new systenms won't even read the fault codes on ABS II !
Luckily a few of the older techs in this dealership are proper mechanics and veritable squirrels so have spirited away a lot of the old tools they used to use for a rainy day!
As long as the GT1 works then we should be good - otherwise I'll switch the computers across and see how that goes
