Post by: kennybobby on November 02, 2011, 04:43:02 PM: i'm 5'11" and get lots of turbulent wind noise in my helmet with the stock windscreen on the red 1988 bike. If feels like it is hitting right in my face. Don't know what the reference design point was for the K75S, but if i drop my head down about 2 or 3 inches there is no airflow and it gets extremely quiet. And if i rise up on my legs 3 or 4 inches, it gets into a lot of airflow, but is smooth air and is quieter than the status quo.

It seems odd that they have that little up-turned lip on the screen--seems like that would just generate more turbulence.

On the white 1986 bike i tried drilling the screen to add some aftermarket side deflectors and even added an extra "laminar" lip piece to try and throw the turbulence higher/off my face. i also tried an extra tall straight screen with no lip, think it was a parabellum ? maybe. Didn't like the looks or feels of that one.

So i went the shorter route and cut about 2 inches off the top edge of the OEM screen removing the lip. The air was smoother, but not as quiet as being under the bubble.

i guess the trade off is to stay down in or expand the bubble region to have a quiet ride with no air, or to get up above the bubble into a smoother airflow with it's noise.

Anybody have some good solutions here?

Post by: Chaos on November 02, 2011, 09:11:44 PM: Some people have been happy with this mod with the stock windshield and spacers. No firsthand experience. I was happy with an Aeroflow until I wrecked the bike and rebuilt it with a more nakked look.

The lip helps some, but not a lot. The time I really noticed a difference was after using the lip for a couple of months, then spent a couple of days with it off, because the adhesive had failed on a couple of the mounting buttons. I noticde more noise and wind pressure than I had gotten used to with it.
The spacers help slightly, but aren't a magic bullet either.

I've seriously considered cutting the windscreen in half, but I'd rather buy a used one to try that on than cutting up the current one.

Yes, I suppose you're right that the LL does help some. My standards for windscreens is rather high. I'm 6-2 and like to ride without a helmet so I want something that lets me ride lidless at speed. Last summer I rode behind a K75S LL through Glacier NP lidless and even at Nat'l Park 35 mph it was still windy.

Definitely fuglier than the Aeroflow, but it would be nice for touring!

Above Parabellum shield looks very similar to the Parabellum Scout setup on my K 75.

GREAT aerodynamics on the Scout, almost a clone of the R 100 RS fairing/shield design but a little more rounded on the edges.

I agree completely. I used to have the Parabellum Scout on my old K75C. I absolutely loved it. The wind protection is excellent. They also have 3 different windscreen height options, I believe, which makes it easier to customize based on your height.

I love my Parabellum Scout. It came with the bike when I purchased it in 2000, got a little bit bashed up after a little front-ender but is still hangin' in there almost 100k miles later. With the BMW grip guards, heated grips and decade-old Kilimanjaro with gore-text lining I'm good for three hours at 30 deg. I wouldn't call it fun, but I'm good.

Parabellum Scout, 18" windscreen, high enough to direct the wind just over my helmet with my low-seat K75. I'm 5-8 and ride in upright position. Call Parabellum and ask about which screen to get for your height, bike model and riding style. The Scout comes with plastic trim -- I haven't replaced mine yet after painting it last summer. Parabellum will paint match exactly for $200. These units are by no means cheap but they're well designed, well supported and made in USA.

Parabellum Sport -- This came with the 94 K75 I got last summer. It's nowhere near as good as the Scout. It's not high enough to direct the wind over my head when seated upright. Since it's one-piece, you can't get a replacement screen that's higher or lower according to your size and style. Also, if it gets cracked it's done for. If the Scout screen gets cracked or damaged (happened to me twice in 14 years) you can at least get a replacement from Parabellum or have one made somewhere.

Post by: beemuker on June 24, 2016, 06:58:32 PM: no one mentioned Guftasson, {I think} I bought one for my K75s, now sold, and it almost worked for me, much less turbulence than the stock, I went with the 19" and it needed to be a little taller. I was totally out of the wind if I slouched a little. They make each one on order , so you can specify height. i got the lip on mine.

I used bigger and longer screws, and that's why I went with the 19, I didn't want to push my luck.

I'm a Bricker, not a breaker of Bricks. :laughing4-giggles:

What it most resembles to me is a Parabellum Scout Fairing, perhaps an early version or one adapted from a Parabellum R version. Here are a couple of photos from Parabellum's site. Here's a photo of one from this thread (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=258.msg10921#msg10921). How well do the recesses for the turn signals line up?

fairing somewhat similar to yours. The lower supports that attach the
bottom of it to the forks were somewhat flimsy so I fashioned some
sturdier custom ones out of 1/8" thick aluminum bar stock from the
hardware store.
