Title: water pump spacer.. old style to new
Post by: ned37 on May 25, 2012, 03:36:52 PM
just changed the water pump seals on my '92 k75rt  which was dripping oil.  it had the old style seals which i replaced with the new style and did not change the impeller spacer.  is that a no-no?  it is now gently dripping coolant.  is there a difference between the spacers?  when i torqued the bolt on the impeller, it seemed to be pretty tight to rotate.  from the video on youtube the spacer looks wider.  can i just replace the spacer if i really need it?

You have shagged the ceramic seal and will need to replace it. you can either fit the pressed steel impeller with the aluminum spacer or machine 3mm from the boss of the old cast impeller but using the old cast impeller without mods will crush the ceramic seal. Its a bit like holding the family fine heirloom china in a vise to clean it.
