The clock on my '94 K75 will not keep the correct time. WTF? I have reset it several times but, no dice. I like the 24hr feature but it does me no good since I can't trust it. HELP!!!!
Mitch
-
Haven't heard that one before. Is it resetting like it has lost power? Or does it just run slow or fast?
-
Runs slow. I reset it at 1300 2 days ago and now it should be reading 1207 local time but it's reading 1302!
Mitch
-
Correction, it's reading 102
-
If it loses power I think it resets to 00:00 and starts counting. You can try cleaning the cluster plug and reseating it. If that doesn't work you'll have to take the cluster apart and check the internal connections.
-
I doubt it's the internal connections given the way it's connected.
Do it flicker at all when you're riding?
-
No Duck, it just refuses to keep accurate time. I tell you this clock is driving me nuts! I have a brand new BMW Branded (EXIDE) Gel Battery, alternator is working fine & all other electrics are perfect. I'm starting to think it's just straight-up Gremlins!

Sounds like you just have a bad clock.
-
You can get new ones on fleabay http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=BMW+K1100+clock&_sacat=10063&_dmpt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&_odkw=BMW+K1100&_osacat=10063&bkBtn=&_trksid=p4506.m270.l1313 (http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=BMW+K1100+clock&_sacat=10063&_dmpt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&_odkw=BMW+K1100&_osacat=10063&bkBtn=&_trksid=p4506.m270.l1313)
I fixed one on a mates K100 by cleaning the contact area with a pencil eraser, it's still working but it was just not working at all
-
Try to disconnect the battery for about a half hour (did work for me...opposite problem...running to fast).

There's a trim capacitor on the clock unit if you pull it out from the instrument housing. I believe it's supposed to adjust the clock's timing. I've never tried this myself, but I suppose it's worth a try to fiddle with it. You'd want to hook up the clock to some external 6V power source while you do the fiddling, I imagine.
-
There's a trim capacitor on the clock
This is only valid on early units, the chip and pcb was changed.....around -89 -90 somewhere.
On the later unit the trim capacitor is removed.

Well then, for the OP I have a proposal then... I have clock that I think keeps time reasonably well (and FWIW its got a trim cap), but the LCD display is dead. So put together I suppose we have one functional clock :bmwsmile Would you be interested in my clock "back end"?

Frode, have you seen this (http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech/lcd-clock-fix.shtml)?

haha, i have both of you "beat"
just got the bike a little while ago, as you can see, the LCD is busted on the left hand side.
"oh, well i can see most of the hour, and the minutes so no big deal."
recently realized that the time is getting more and more off. so yeah, useless.
next time i have the cluster open, i'm going to make notes of how much space is taken up there. perhaps i can figure out some circuit i can build to fill the space and give me back a clock and maybe more.
-
Frode, have you seen this (http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech/lcd-clock-fix.shtml)?
Yes, I've tried that and more, rubbing the LCD contact points with alcohol and whatnot. Finally I rubbed too much and now none of the segments work... :dunno
I think a new oem clock is too expensive, I'm going to find some cheap clock thing to put in there, and possibly some custom microcontroller thingy later on.
