Title: K75 Noob
Post by: tlcoulter on May 20, 2012, 09:37:31 PM
I just bought a '95 K75 last week.  It is red, has 45k miles, a Works Performance shock, two sets of bags (one touring and one city), and two saddles - one of which is a Corbin.  It has sat for about three years.  The former owner said he tried starting it last September.  He said it was difficult to start, and that it kept fouling the plugs.  I charged the battery, and the electrics appear to be working, but it will not fire.  I did not want to push my luck, because I believe I should drain the gas before starting it.

Are there any subtle features of this bike that I should be aware of?  I also have a '78 R80/7 that has been converted to a cafe racer and an '08 R1200RT.  I dropped the cafe racer last Wednesday and broke my left ankle, so it will be a while before I can do any serious work on the bike.

Welcome. Sounds like you have time to do some reading. Start here (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,550.0.html) and then look in the Liebrary (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/board,9.0.html).

Welcome.
I agree that you should stop pushing that start button until you get that old gas out.  While at it, replace the filter.

Send the injectors to Mr. Injector. http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,1064.0.html (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,1064.0.html)

The best way to foul the plugs on a K75 is to run it at idle a bunch.  They're designed to be ridden, not idled.

i believe I will do that.  I broke my left ankle last week, so I will have a month or so to piddle around the garage.  I would much rather be riding!

Welcome! Too bad you had to start your K ownership on the wrong foot, so to speak. Heal up quick!
