Title: Rear Main Seal O Ring
Post by: ccjax on May 09, 2012, 08:52:02 AM
Frequent reader but first time poster here.  This may seem like a dumb question, but I am in the process of replacing the rear main seal on my 85 K100.  While doing this I got in a rush and over torqued the nut when I seated the o ring by quite a bit.  I was using NM when I should have been using foot pounds.  Can anyone tell me if this will cause a problem?  I would hate to have to redo this whole process.  Thank you.

Did you over torque both 1st and 2nd stage, did you change the compression ring between the nut and O-ring?

If you used the correct torque at 2nd stage, an didn`t feel that the threads did start to strip at 1st. stage,
it wouldn`t have disturbed my nightsleep.

I over torqued the first stage.  The second stage was torqued to the proper foot pounds.  I did change the compression ring before I over torqued.
