Title: Wading through the Wiring
Post by: monsterbrick on May 03, 2012, 12:15:10 PM
Have been working on an 85 K100RS for a while and have made it to the electrics.  This is the first bike that I have put together and have learned quite a few lessons so far.  One that I don’t want to learn is blowin up that sweet fuel injection control unit or anything ells for that matter!

I have the wiring diagram http://tinyurl.com/85k100wiring (http://tinyurl.com/85k100wiring) and the Clymer, but can’t seem to distinguish how the starter/battery grounds are connected.  All wiring is original with a new battery.  Any tips from the BMW world would be greatly appreciated!

The battery ground goes from the negative terminal on the battery to the bolt above the shift lever on the left side of the transmission.

The starter is grounded by being bolted to the transmission.  There's no wiring involved.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!  Is the starter connected strait to the wiring harness? and Battery Negative only to ground?

There's several beefy red wires with a ring terminal on the end coming out of the bottom of the relay box that bolt to the starter.

The battery only grounds to the transmission.
