Title: "choke" light
Post by: lukeman on April 19, 2012, 02:35:03 PM
Anyone know where the sensor/switch is that turns on and off the 'choke' light is?  Mine is staying on constantly not even when it is turned off.

Thanks!

I believe it is under the fast idle cam, on the throttle bodies. Most of the bikes don't have the switch, but just the wire and bulb.

They stopped installing the switch in 1990.  The wiring is still there in the later bikes' wiring harness though.  All you need is the little spacer ring (13541460926)and the switch. (61311459569)

It can also be used as an auxiliary signal light. For example: radar detector, running light power, etc.

Also check your choke linkage at the end of the TB`s and cable adjustement: link. (https://www.bmwmc.net/catalog/13%20013%2086%20%282227%29.pdf)

Wow great document!  Thanks. I figured it had to be down there somewhere along the throttle.  Going to dig into it this weekend.  Probably also a good time to check the boots for vacuum leaks.
