Can anyone tell me what this hose (in the first two pictures) is used for? Upon cleaning the tank, I removed little rubber particles that looked like they came off of something. I'm thinking it's from this hose. The end of it looks to be in rough shape as if a piece (or pieces) broke off. The tank is currently primed and ready for its paint job. Now I'm just curious to know what the function of this hose is for.
Since i'm inside the tank, what is the piece that the red arrow is pointing to?

All pictures shows the vent. hose....connected to the screen basket under the fuel pump.
Once upon a time its been in one piece....when you get a new one be shure that it can be
submersed in fuel....SAE 30R10.

So then what would happen in the long run if i pull it out and just ride without it? I was riding wtih the way the hose looks like in the picture and I didn't experience any symptoms to my knowledge.

Somewhere along the line of time, wasn't there a TSB for the 1100's to "install" one of those hoses from the fuel return stub and have it drop down near the fuel pump pickup?

I've "heard" that it somehow supposedly reduces cavitation at the base of the fuel pump. Don't know for sure though.
