Title: Can clutch spline grease dry out over time?
Post by: TaosBrick on April 13, 2012, 04:21:14 PM
I'd mentioned this in my "tranny woes" post, but no one commented on it. My whip is at 33,000, last spline lube done at 28,000. But - the bike sat basically unridden (1000 mi in eleven years) since the spline lube was done in 2001. So should this period since the last lube be a consideration or no?

My '97 with 7K miles when I bought it in '05 needed a spline lube as it was dried out.

Your picture showed a decent amount of fuzz but if it had no "chunks" then the transmission is probably okay.  If the  bike is shifting poorly, you're probably due for a an input shaft spline lube.

Yes, everything dries out eventually, that's why they make bacon flavored personal lubricant!

Yeah, that would work, in a blatant kinda way.
