Title: 1987 k-100 fuse box layout (lost the cover)and a short.
Post by: backwatereddy on April 03, 2012, 03:39:58 PM
First, thanks for all the previous help; you have saved me days of work and hundreds of dollars. The thing runs great now but is now blowing the 3rd fuse from the bottom, and the turn signals quit. I've found a couple of layout options on this site, but not sure which, if either,  applies. One shows the 3rd fuse from the bottom to be for the jetronic (?), the other shows high-beam, my Clymer shows other stuff. The wires to that fuse are red, red/white stripe, and red-yellow stripe - for "special equipment" and "optional anti-theft" - I think, if I'm reading Clymers correctly. Makes me think the turn signal issue may be coincidental, but what do I know? When I plug a fuse into the slot, I get a blue spark (hard short), a click from the box under the seat, and the fuse instantly melts. I feel sure that I can figure this out (within a months;  2 years tops), but someone here probably already knows what's the problem. Please spare me from paying the dues you have already paid with blood, sweat, and dollars.

Here you go.  (The headlights aren't fused on K bikes.)

Thanks for getting back on that. An update: the turns signals were a separate issue. They now work fine, and the bike runs well - as long as I leave the Jetronic fuse out, which stills blows instantly. Assuming BMW wouldn't put a jetronic in there if it wasn't necessary, I need to find out what it does. I know I sound pretty ignorant to anyone who knows these motorcycles, but it won't always be like this. Sooner or later I get up to speed. Or I downgrade the technology. Sadly, the Ks don't loan themselves to easy  de-tech solutions - like my 1985 R80, which was easily converted to points and already had 2 Bings.

The L-Jetronic controls the fuel injection.

Here's a color wiring diagram for an 85 K100: http://www.motobrick.com/ducktech/kwiring/Early%20K75%20K100/K100_Early_Wiring_Diagram.jpeg (http://www.motobrick.com/ducktech/kwiring/Early%20K75%20K100/K100_Early_Wiring_Diagram.jpeg)

I`ll guess a PO have used one of the connectors "anti-theft" (round, white) or "special equipment" to
power some this or that somewhere on the bike, and just have cut the wire.

It`s only these two connectors that this fuse supplies.....................and the Jetronic unit is unfused.
