Title: Alternative Fuel Filter
Post by: DRxBMW on March 28, 2012, 08:50:17 PM
alternative fuel filter list ______________.

The Mahle Knecht listed below is the genuine BMW one...if you can find it...

Autozone ff424?
Triumph T1240850
AC GF61
BMW - 16 14 2 325 859
Fleetguard FF149
Fram G2
KNECHT MAHLE KL145 OEM (Amazon) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005GDJSXQ/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B005GDJSXQ&linkCode=as2&tag=cinematographyco&linkId=6VE2K5DYCXM5NUYL)
Motocraft FG-2
Napa Gold 3032
Deutsch model FF424
Purolator - F20011
Wix 33032

FWIW, I'm a fan of the NAPA 3032 filter,$5.00 Vs $36.00 for OEM BMW.
Tip: reuse your original hose, the hose supplied is NOT gas resistant.

From the list at IBMWR.org, with a few annotations from me (wmax351).

The Fram filter for my 1996 Ford Mustang GT, 4.6L, is resting nicely inside the tank of my 1993 K75s. Same fuel pressure rating, 7.9mm rather than 8mm fittings, so you have to tighten the hose clamps a little farther. The body is larger, so it takes finesse to put it into place, but it fits.
Fram G3802A was $8.99 at Kragen auto parts, about 2,000 miles ago.

note from motobrick johnny... i have used the napa 3032 for years... 3 bucks... replace them every 10,000 miles... have never had fuel system failure... yeeeeehaaaaaaa...

Good stuff. I'll add it to the Card Catalog.

For someone new to the bike wrenching experience, I will say the info on the Napa 3032 was worth the price of admission to motobrick.com.  For the $5 cost and experienced rider recommendations (Thank you DR), I keep one on hand and change the filter on my bike every 10K.  Seems pretty cheap insurance to me.

...Fram G2...

So the Fram G2 is okay for K's fuel injection pressure?

I always used fuel filters with steel housings, may be subjective but I figured they'd be stronger.

Based on their oil filters, I will not use a Fram filter for anything.

could anyone tell me if the plastic purolator listed is safe to have submerged in the tank? a little worried about that.

note: pepboys has it for $3.24 (promocode: 35pep)

Personally unless they are guaranteed for fuel injection pressures I would stick to the metal ones.

Hi there, I am confused and cautious.
I saw the recommendation @ the MAHLE KL145 and went to Amazon.
There is a tool they offer online to check if its the right part for your bike.
It said that it was not a fit for my 95 K75...thoughts from the experienced?

Thanks

I like to support the businesses that support my riding choice.

Beemerboneyard.com has the Mann filter for $17.95  http://www.beemerboneyard.com/16142325859.html (http://www.beemerboneyard.com/16142325859.html)

+1 on the NAPA Gold 3032.  Wish I knew what the filters that cost $12 to $20 more are giving me that the $5 NAPA doesn't.  My bricks seem to be happy with the NAPA filter.

The Amazon tool is not programmed to recognise this vehicle-part combination so it reverts to the safe option - telling you it is not supported.  That's a CYA for Amazon. The Mahle does indeed fit and function in the K-bike.  You should not trust the artificial intelligence of Amazon Inc.; believe the hundreds of K-bike owners who have successfully used this filter in their bikes.

Thanks @rbm- that is helpful. The Mahle was my first pick, but since tomorrow is my day off and I didn't order it I think I'll drop by NAPA & pick up the recommended fuel filter there.
