Title: fuel tank repair
Post by: james toland on March 25, 2012, 08:26:32 PM
Hello;  I just bought a 1990 K75 and it has many pin holes in the aluminum tank.  Does anybody have any suggestions? :yow

Pretty common for them to leak at the bottom seam in the center (most common spot). That's where the water in the tank settles.  I used JB weld on mine about 5 years ago, just wirebrushed off the corrosion and smeared it on (the area is hidden by the fairing.  It's held up well,  I know of folks that have used Permatex instant gas tank repair with excellent results.

I've done 3 tanks with the permatex and all are still good, one was done 5 years ago.

I did one with some sort of "steel" epoxy made for metals.  Read the label and make sure whatever you use is gas resistant/proof.
