Hi Guys
I'm just having a moment here since I put my tragkorb rails back onto the bike the other weekend - they look to be curved ! just wondering if thats normal or I've forgotten to put spacers back in or something ?
-
Ok
I'm now pretty sure something is not right in my back end (hmm) the pics below show the slightly odd curve I've got on the rails. I'm wondering if there's a significant difference between the 8v rails and the 16v rails as they do have a totally different part number. In which case i'm guessing that when they got changed out in the bikes police life they just changed it for whatever was in the work shop at the time.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated

All K bikes use the same "Z" racks with the exact same part numbers. On the 4V Ks they tend to bow out at the bottom as the peg plates are stepped out at the rear to clear the bulge in the paralever swing arm.
-
Really Duck ?
That curve in the racks is so extreme that I can't get city tragkorbs to fit though - does it look like I'm missing anything on those rear mounts? When it was in police fit out the tragkorb racks were installed with 1 inch+ spacers in the top mounts to get the rails square to the footrest hangers but they went when I fitted the civilian top box rack
-
It's kind of hard to tell from the pics but that right one does look kind of wonky. You did mount the bottoms inside of the peg plates, right?
Perhaps your Z racks got warped somehow when they were off the bike or having them installed with spacers for so long did something to them. Did they space out the front right top mount too? If they just spaced out the top right rear mount and not the front then that may have warped it. Just guessing though.
Here's some lookups that show the same left and right case holders were used on all of the Ks (and a couple of Rs)

Different frame lugs on the police models?
Looking at the front right mounting, on a monolever the screw is about in center of the frame tube.
On the paralevers it`s around 22mm offset to the outside.

I checked the parts catalog and there doesn't appear that there was a separate frame for the LTPs. And I don't recall anyone who's done the P=>civvy conversion in the past running into this.
If you take the racks off of the bike then they should be flat without any curvature.
-
Maybe it is right then, the rails pop back to flat when they're off the bike - I may stick my other set on that I have and see what they look like.
It did have quite a hard hit when it was in police service as the rear hoop has had some welding I think, although to be fair this wasn't sold to the UK police until 2001 so this may have been one of the parts bin specials they had in the factory. That may also explain the 11:34 final drive too.
It is not officially declared as an LTIC on the BMW Motorrad computer system rather an LT but then the civvie ones weren't that different to the police anyway.
I guess I'm just concerned it will stress the footrest plates too much as I can deal with the Z rails being sacrificial but the footrest plates support a few more important things (like my feet).
Thanks for your help guys

Duc750,
I have a Plain Jane '94 K1100Lt and my "z" bars look identical to yours.
-
I just had my side case off today and it's also identical to yours.
-
I think the solution is to ship those pesky city cases to me. Problem solved.
-
Found the knack of wiggling the city case on now :) but will the frames with this part number fit the K1100 ? 46 54 2 303 189
Real OEM says not but I can't see a difference

Duc, the part # you listed there is for a SET of BOTH(left and right) for the k75 and k100 series bikes. Why they don't list the same set # for the 1100's is beyond me.
The single part #s for the Z-rails are the the same for all the K-bikes, like Drake said.
