Title: K75 Starter won’t crank with Tenet cluster
Post by: 3dachshunds on October 04, 2026, 10:25:25 AM
Good morning,
I am working on 1994 K75c scrambler conversion. I hit a snag with a starter not cranking. Hoping to get some help for you guys.
So here are the details: I replaced the lunchbox with fiveaces tenet unit. The cluster powers up and sees neutral, but the starter won’t crank when start button is pressed. Starter relay high current side works fine (starter will crank when bolted-on contacts are bridged). However, pin 86 is not getting voltage when start button pressed, or clutch lever is pulled in. Bridging the start button contacts on it back side won’t do anything. I am at loss at this point.  One possibility would be Tenet doesn’t energize starter switch, but how to test this? I don’t know if the motorcycle ran at all before I started this project, and foolishly I got rid of the original cluster, so I can’t test if the circuit works with original lunchbox. Thanks for your help!

Verify your clutch switch is good.
The starter switch gets it's 'hot' power(Gn-Blk) from only 2 sources. 1 is the clutch switch, the other is from the 'lunch box neutral control'(which you have removed).
The starter relay gets '86' power from the start switch(Grn-Yel) and gets '85' ground reference from the ignition ECU(term 11 Brn-Red).
Power flow train.... Battery(red) -->(red) Ign switch(Green) --> (Green)Kill switch(Green/Yellow) -->(Green/Yellow) fuse #1(Green/White) --> (Green/White)Clutch switch(Green/White) --> (Green/White)Start switch(Green/Yellow) --> (Green/Yellow)Starter Relay #86

Thanks Scott!
This is what I found: if I jump solid green wire of right side handle bar harness to its terminal on backside of start button (jumper wire plugged into back of harness plug on frame side), starter will crank with button pressed. So it appears solid green wire is broken inside handlebar harness somewhere between start button and the male plug. I was expecting the culprit would be Tenet, but you never know..
