Title: Handlebar mount
Post by: Atabeach on November 22, 2025, 09:23:41 PM
So I am adding longer bars to my 85 standard. The bars have a different mounting system than my other bike, a 1990 S. The bars are not secure at all , moving about 1” when applying pressure forward as if braking. On the 1990 the bottom handlebar bracket is one piece…part of the steering head mount. # 2. Photo the 1985 is bolted on? Photo 1 and exploded view ) It may have not mattered with lower bars as all hand pressure was down while braking, not forward….Im having trouble believing this system is in place for LT models.

Thanks Laitch! The bars move quite a bit…hopefully this tightens them up.

Ok sooo the brass washer thing did not tighten the bars up significantly...Also in the process I stripped one of the mounting bars. My next question before buying on flea bay ( $50 )...Are they all the same? that is , do later bikes have a more substantial threaded rod attached to handlebar mount? The threads on mine are 8mm x 125. TIA
