Title: ‘89 K100 Street Tracker Project
Post by: Thehandysam on August 24, 2025, 04:55:37 PM
First post here :)

So, I’ve had a ‘97 CBR900RR sat in my garden for the last year. I took it as p/x on another bike and was full of good intentions of turning it into some sort of streetfighter. However, it didn’t run. Over the last year I’ve just had no enthusiasm to do anything to it, so I decided to get rid. I advertised it cheap and it went within a couple of days. Time to find something else.

A bit of browsing at the bargain basement end of the classifieds and I spotted this. An ‘89 K100RS. It was only 15 miles away so I hired a van last week and went to take a look. It was just as advertised, so I handed over the money and brought it home.

Another update already!!

Today I had a spare couple of hours (Mrs Sammo, daughter and Son all busy) so I started stripping all the plastic off the bike.

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to strip. Within an hour or so I was left with this.

Final update for today. I had an image in my head of what I wanted the bike to look like. So I got on ChatGPT earlier and gave it some instructions based on the bike in its original state.

This is what it came up with. Almost spot on to what I had in mind.

Based on the instructions I gave ChatGPT it had used the tail from a 1990 Suzuki GSXR1100. Obviously it’s an AI render so nothing is exact with it. However I figured getting the tail fairings from that bike would be a good place to start. At least I’ll have something to use for mock ups and they’ll give me a better idea of where I’ll need to cut the frame.

£60 later from eBay.

I might get a bit of spare time this Sunday to start mocking the tail up. Although that’s weather dependant now. I’m trying to find somewhere to store my ‘85 BMW 5 Series so I can free up the garage for bike things, but having a hard time finding somewhere within my budget.
