Having been on a quest to find a mounting position for my Garmin GPS for a while I am happy to say I think I’ve found a solution I’m happy with.
I recently bit the bullet and purchased the Motorrad-Technik GmbH ball mount which works with the Ram mount system I have for my Garmin 64s.
The mount itself is machine cut aluminum and quite slim, which is a good thing because BMW really did not give much room to work with.
After removing the plastic shrouding I could fairly easily get the mount seated right by the handlebar bend.
The mount extends just enough to clear the handlebar shroud. Overall, this works great for me, and although the shipping cost more than the part, I am happy with the end result.
